Too many people enter the network marketing industry with the wrong focus. They think that the way to be successful is to try and get as many distributors in their network as quickly as possible. The mistake they are making is that they put very little emphasis on getting customers. They fail to realize that without customers they will not have a business.

Many recruiters are still telling their newcomers that the best way to build a network marketing business is to get as many distributors into your network as quickly as you can. This sounds very realistic and promising, but what really happens when there are nothing but distributors in a network? They end up quitting!

Why do they quit? Because they have no customers. And without customers purchasing product no one makes money. it should becoming clear to you why focusing on recruiting distributors is not the best way to build an MLM company.

You will certainly need distributors in your network but you first have to have a solid customer base. Wait until you have those customers before you focus all your attention on recruiting. You also may find that out of your customer base you’ll get some that want to become distributors because they like the products so much.

Besides, how many of us have run into the problem of trying to convince family and friends that they should join our business and become rich and end up with all our family and friends avoiding us? I’m sure there are more than will actually admit it.

The people we know are aware of our business “expertise”. For most of us that is very little when we first join an MLM company. We certainly don’t have much credibility just starting out. It would be much easier trying to get our family and friends to try the products first. If they like them we are at least starting to build a customer base.

Another reason to build a customer base first is that it will give you an income. It may not be as big as you want in the beginning, but remember it does take time to build any business. Too many distributors quit when they realize that the only one making purchases is them. Who benefits from this? The company.

The network marketing business is very competitive, just like any other type of business. And if you don’t market your products you will never sell them. But yet, all you see is people promoting their income opportunity. Of course we all want distributors. But any distributor that you bring into the business has to do the same thing you did. And that is to go after customers first.

It is the only way to build a solid and successful network. It takes time but it is worth it. Be patient and spend your efforts getting customers first and then go after the business people.
