Should I sue an old employer for failing to notify me that i was fired?

I worked at this job way back when I was 17, I’m 25 yrs old now. Apparently I was written up with a very bad review and got fired without ever being noticed. I always understood the reason for my departure was becase the department where I used to work at closed down and so they never called me back to work. I just sat home waiting for a phone call but I never recieved one. Not even a phone call asking me to return the uniform.

This is costing me a potential career right now because I wrote down on an application that I never got fired from that job. An investigator obtained HR paperwork from that past employer and it is not matching what I said on my current application.

This is making me look like I flat out lied on my appication when infact I wrote down erroneous information because they failed to notify me that I was fired.

Is this good reasons to pursue a lawsuit?

I don’t think the case would really go anywhere. If you did try to pursue the case, how would you ever prove that they did not tell you. I would be more concerened how this “investigator” was able to get actual paperwork from your previous job. Depending on exactly where you live, there MAY have been privacy laws broken for them to get this information.

Just explain to your current prospective employeer exactly what you said here. If they are going to deny you a job because of something that happened before you were 18 and over 8 years ago, this may not be the job for you.
